Design Museum Gent was founded in 1903 as a 'museum of models', a place where craftspeople and artists could gain inspiration and knowledge. How can a design collection still inspire today? The new collection presentation Models from the Past for the Future takes the museum's origins as its starting point.

The book of the same name explores how design objects can function as 'models'. Sometimes they inspire us, and sometimes we want to rethink them. In twelve richly illustrated essays by experts from Belgium and abroad, the book delves into the themes of copy, comfort, migration, folding and connections. These five themes also run through 50 Highlights – The Collection Presentation of Design Museum Gent. This booklet brings together fifty objects from the display. Which models will we carry with us into the future?
