The Pieter Bruegel Atlas

  • Focusing on the most important achievements by Bruegel, this is a unique atlas-based approach, uniting culture and tourism harmoniously in one book

This is the second title in a new prestigious cultural tourism project by Lannoo Publishers. The Pieter Bruegel Atlas illustrates the life of Bruegel on a timeline: important dates and periods in the life of the Old Master are indicated and elaborated on in the main part of the book through text, images and maps.

Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1525 / 1530-1569) was one of the most innovative artists of the 16th century. Although he is mainly remembered as the attentive observer of peasant scenes, Bruegel was so much more. He is a draftsman and graphic artist, storyteller and humourist, and a man who often holds up a mirror to us. Bruegel stayed and worked in the Brabant cities of Antwerp and Brussels and Mechelen. But he was also one of the first artists to travel throughout Italy to Sicily.

In The Pieter Bruegel Atlas we travel to all the places that made Bruegel the influential artist he was. Most of his works are covered, while the atlas is lavishly illustrated with photographs and dozens of historical and contemporary maps.
